Nothing ordinary, nothing twice — every piece hunted down and chosen for its detail.
Uuli's Unique & Unusual is an antiques and curiosities shop at 4/3 Whistler Street, Manly, on Sydney's Northern Beaches — open every day, 9am to 5pm.
What this place is
A Tiffany bangle next to amber beads with prehistoric insects sealed inside. That's not a mix-up — that's the whole idea. Every single thing here was personally sourced by Üüli, one piece at a time, for being gloriously unlike anything else — and the stock changes so often that today's shop won't be next month's shop. Come in once and you'll understand why half the neighbourhood is a bit besotted.
The Collection
Every piece arrives with a story already attached.

Nº 01 Jewellery — Givenchy, gold and a little mischief
Vintage Givenchy sits beside old gold rings with a few lifetimes already on them. Try things on — Üüli insists.

Nº 02 Glassware — pour, admire, repeat
Lalique and Murano share the shelves with Iittala, Edinburgh Crystal and the occasional Tapio Wirkkala — glass that asks to be held up to the window before it goes home with you.

Nº 03 Once pinned to somebody's Sunday best

Nº 04 Pottery — incl. Polli Pots · Denmark
Studio pottery and ceramics with personality — thumbprints in the glaze, signatures on the base. The Danish pieces come from Eeli Polli of Polli Pots, ceramic artist and sister of the hunter herself. It runs in the family.

Nº 05 Lighting — lamps with opinions
Lamps picked for silhouette first and wattage second. Switch one on and see what it does to a room.

Nº 06 Fashion — clothes that have lived a little
Clothes and accessories that have outlasted every trend they were warned about — worn once to somewhere wonderful and ready for the next occasion.

Nº 07 Curiosities — a Maori patu. Carved Bakelite. We did say unusual
Oddities and one-offs that defy every label except the one on the window. This is the corner people photograph first, ask about second and talk about at dinner for weeks.

Nº 08 Catch the light, keep the compliments

Nº 09 The shop window · responsible for several missed ferries
The Hunter
Üüli comes from three generations of artists — she was quite literally born with the eye. She grew up in Soviet-era Estonia, where you could have any paint colour you liked — as long as it was one of two — and any shoes you fancied, as long as they were one of two kinds. When you're raised an artist in a world that hard on the beautiful and the different, you develop a ferocious appetite for both.
“I've always had an eye for picking things that people love. People seem to already love it. I love it!”
For more than twenty years, Estonian-born Üüli has chosen the stock herself — no agents, no job lots. Her sourcing trips loop through Denmark, across the UK and around Australia, and she only brings home what she can't bear to leave behind. Lately that includes herself: Üüli is Australian now — though the eye remains proudly Estonian. Her first foothold here was a coffee van — locals may remember Uuliverse; it's in new hands now — but antiques were always the love affair, and in late 2021 she opened the shop. She doesn't tidy things up or make them over — she finds them. The hunt is the craft. And Manly gets to keep her, along with the spoils.

Nº 10 Üüli · in her natural habitat
“If it lasted a hundred years, it will probably last another hundred. I like that beautiful things go from generation to generation.”
— Üüli
Visit the Shop
Üüli puts it best: she wants you to walk in, look at something and think “that's just amazing” — or “that is my kind of thing!” It happens daily (the five-star reviews agree). Two minutes from the beach and very easy to lose an hour in.

Nº 11 The window after hours · still showing off
Can't get to Manly?
A small, ever-changing selection of Üüli's finds makes it onto eBay and Etsy, shipped worldwide — and new pieces show up first on Instagram. The rest never leaves the shop. That's rather the point.
